Mussels populations in the Little Miami (and world-wide) have suffered over recent decades and are still far from recovering. Scientists are still trying to figure out why.

Ohio DNR Division of Wildlife is funding a new LMC research project to sample stream sites in the watershed to paint a picture of data which describes the remaining mussel and host fish species. This 'environmental DNA' data will add to our understanding and help guide future restoration work.
