Volunteers from the Little Miami Conservancy hosted 10 members of Cub Scout Pack 20 and their parents on a guided river float on Sunday, August 22nd. The day began when author Bill Schroeder gave a spirited reading of his book "Smallmouth Sonny of Bass Island Bar", highlighting the great wildlife that can be found on the National Wild and Scenic river right here in our hometown.
Following a safety demonstration, it was time to get out on the water and find the real life stars of the book, as well as other animals along the river. Floating from Loveland down to Lake Isabella, the group was able to spot Osprey, Great Blue Herons, and multiple fish species to complete their scavenger hunt. Finally, no trip to the river would be complete without taking some time to turn over some stones and learn about the insects and other small animals that provide food for this amazing ecosystem.
Special thanks to the parents and chaperones from Pack 20, Loveland Canoe & Kayak, LMC Board members Dave Smith, Bill Schroeder, and Mark Plavko for making this special event possible!
